Analogue Pocket is the latest creation from the Seattle-based company, looking to expand on their mission to preserve video game history using modern technology, high-end materials and a sleek design language.

There’s never been a better way to play your old Game Boy games and the device looks absolutely incredible.

Out of the box, Pocket allows you to play the entire Game Boy, Game Boy Color and Game Boy Advance cartridge library with over 2,780+ titles available. But it doesn’t stop there. The handheld is a multi-video-game-system that will work with cartridge adapters for other systems like Game Gear, Neo Geo Pocket Color, Atari Lynx and others.

Analogue claims that “there has never been a display this advanced in a video game system”, and it’s easy to understand why. Pocket is designed around a first-in-class 3.5”, 615 ppi, LCD.

With a 1600×1440 resolution, it has 10x the resolution of an original Game Boy with pro level color accuracy, dynamic range, and brightness.

The Pocket display boasts 10x the resolution of an original Game Boy.

Similar to its predecessors in the Analogue collection, there’s no emulation here, which ensures the best possible recreation of the original hardware and a lag-free experience. The system was completely engineered in two FPGAs.

“We added a second dedicated FPGA just for developers to develop & port their own cores.”

“With access to Analogue’s proprietary hardware and scalers – we think developers are going to do some amazing things.”

The company is also developing the Analogue Dock™, which will allow gamers to play Pocket on their big HDMI screens, using an approach similar to the Nintendo Switch dock.

Put your Pocket into Dock and it outputs directly to your HDTV.
Sync up any wireless 8BitDo Bluetooth controller directly to Dock for wireless play.

For those looking to produce electronic music, the device also functions as a digital audio workstation with a built-in synthesizer and sequencer.

Pocket is shipping in 2020 for $199. We’ll aim to do a full review when it’s out. Visit Analogue’s website for the full specs and more information.
